Tip #4 Home Business Entrepreneurs are believers
Friday, November 14, 2008
Hi again and thanks for being faithful to our home based business tips series. Being faithful is actually the topic of today's tip. As you may recall from the blog's video clip (also on YouTube), Jani quoted Hebrew 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". Jani's quote comes from King James' version of the Bible. Now by no means do I have expertise in correlating the different versions of the Bible but I did have to do a bit of research on Heb. 11:1 which revealed different wording therefore helping explain faith through repetitive quotes that present a slight difference each time. Here's what I found:
New International version: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
American Standard version: Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.
New Living Translation version: Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.
Contemporary English version: Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.
New Century version: Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.
Holman Christian Standard Bible: Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.
And if I refer to the french version of -La Bible du semeur- which reads: "La foi est une facon de posseder ce qu'on espere, c'est un moyen d'etre sur des realites qu'on ne voit pas." I would translate it as:" Faith is a way to possess what we hope for, it is a mean of being sure of the realities we do not see.
I'm sure that Theologists would have ample discussions explaining the nuances of each version, I am not qualified to do so but I thought of providing you with a few samples in order to bring perspective to the matter before pivoting to the correlation between faith and you as a home based business opportunity believer.
Many words are being used; assurance conviction, confidence, certainty, evidence, reality, substance, etc... yet nowhere do we see the word -belief- being used. However the Merriam-Webster online dictionary has several definitions for faith, out of which I selected these two: (1): firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2): complete trust ... synonyms see belief
So after this lengthy prelude, we revolve around faith/belief in the unseen. When you start a business, you hope for results that are not seen yet. For some people the results remain permanently unseen and for others the results do materialize. So what explains the difference between the two? While there are variables, an immense factor is that belief, certainty and assurance of what you set as an objective will take shape although there is no evidence of it right now. It is that "knowing" that you will indeed reach your goal while having nothing palpable to prove your belief. And with no proof, there is the possibility for doubt to creep up. Doubt may come from you or may come from people around you who do not share your belief. Then your belief is shaken and therefore the certainty is no longer there. You question your belief in your business, your product, your system, your mentor and ultimately you question your belief in yourself.
That is the most important part in this equation, you have to believe in yourself first! It will be very difficult to believe in anything relating to your business if you don't believe in yourself first. By having a clear understanding of what it is you desire to achieve (substance of things hoped for), you then need to be absolutely certain that what is now only a mental image, will materialize (the evidence of things not seen). This mental image comes from you (it is what YOU hope for) and therefore you have a big part to play in the equation - hence why you have to believe in yourself first. You design the image and then through believing in yourself, your business, your product, your system, your mentor, you place absolute certainty in the fact that it must come true.
You are part of a bigger picture that you cannot see and have to realize that your belief in attaining what you set forth as desire is the focal point through which the unseen will create and make your intentions come true. You, through your beliefs, are instrumental in making your desires come through and no one else can do it for you. It is therefore paramount for you to realize the importance of your beliefs and in order for your beliefs to be maintained, you have to monitor your thoughts. As mentioned in a previous article, it's important for you to choose and maintain empowering thoughts. While there are many people, groups and organizations around you who can influence your thoughts, in the end, you have total control over your thoughts, no one can force you to think something, it is you who decide where you focus your attention (yes it takes practice and we cover that in training, but it's not as hard as it may seem). By choosing your thoughts, you can choose to believe in yourself and the unseen. You can choose belief over doubt, you can be the designer of your own life rather than perceiving life as "happening" to you. Much like the Captain of a ship who leaves a port in Europe to sail to the Caribbeans, the Captain does not see his final destination for 99% of the journey yet he "knows" (and therefore believes) he will reach his destination. As Henry Ford once said: "If you think you can or if you think you can't, either way, you're right."
So, what do you think?
